Why Build Lists?

November 14, 2011 in MAGAZINE

Welcome to our list building series! In this series, we’ll discuss how to build your list using Internet tools such as squeeze pages, autoresponders, and social media.

Today we’re going to discuss why building lists is so important. Your lists are your base of eager, attentive potential customers interested in your product. Marketing to your list is more efficient than a print or online advertisement because you already know that the people on your list are directly interested in what you have to sell.

So, how do you build a list?

First, you need to have a website or a blog promoting your product. Second, we recommend that you get a squeeze page, which is a page where potential customers can choose to “opt in” for your product or service by leaving their email

addresses. Customers can also opt in through your blog or website, but a squeeze page has better results (more on this in Part Two). When customers leave their emails, you can collect them together in a spreadsheet and boom!- instant list.

Your list is important because it’s a base of people who have already shown interest in your product or service. When you launch a product or send out a newsletter, you’ll send it out to your list because they have already demonstrated an interest or passion and are much more likely to respond.

Remember: this is a list of interested potential customers! If you can attract attention and build a list, you’ll have a steady client base. We’ll focus on attracting attention throughout the series: how to use social media, autoresponders, and opt-in pages to build your list and build your business. Stay tuned for our next installment!
