the baby asked his mommy: “mommy, when will i start walking?”

October 1, 2010 in MAGAZINE

How long must a child try to walk before he or she actually does so? How long must a world champion boxer train?

These are not complicated questions. The answers to these questions are pretty simple.  A child would never ask that question! Therefore the answer would not matter. Children continue trying until they are actually walking. If this is the case, why do so many adults quit on their goals. They say things like “it’s too hard” or “it’s impossible.” There are a multitude of stories of individuals who persisted until they succeeded at the goals they were focused on.

Without them, we wouldn’t have the airplane, the automobile, or Facebook. Note, if there is goal you are going to go after, it is going to take persistence. I am sure you see boxing champions and think, “wow they live a lucky life,” or “wow they are rich, young, and successful.” Do you think being a world champion is easy? How long does it take for a boxer to become a world champion? How long does it take to train for such a thing?

When will he become a world champion? No world champion ever knew the answers to any of these questions. However, by persisting without exception, their outcome was that their success was assured.

Call to Action: What is the biggest goal you are focused on right now? Get some 3 X 5 cards and write “I will persist without exception” on them. Put them in your wallet, purse, car, mirror in your bathroom, bedroom, office, doors, kitchen, daily planner, etc. Repeat at least five times a day for the next 21 days. Let us know how this small habit is making a difference in your life. We can’t wait to see you at the pinnacle of your success!
